Growing up, I heard stories of how people would travel by sea on the Elder Dempster shipping line from Liverpool to Africa, making a stop in the Canary Islands to replenish supplies before continuing their journey. Perhaps, in a way, Tenerife has always been a bridge between my African past and my European present, and living here allows me to experience the best of both worlds.
